After interviewing the premier dubstep news page on Instagram, DMZ News Official invited Hard Launch to cover his tour stop in Atlanta. As we arrived at the venue, we could hear the blasting dubstep exuding through the walls of Believe Music Hall, giving us a sneak peek of what to expect throughout the evening. Once in the green room, DMZ walked us through his pre-show ritual. Most DJs spend their green room time going over their setlist ad nauseam, but DMZ knows his stuff back to front. Instead, he opted for lots of stretching and outfit preparation. With multiple shirts, masks, and other miscellaneous accessories to be worn, DMZ takes his time to get all suited up before getting in front of the crowd.

For DMZ, the best part of wearing a mask is the freedom to be unapologetically wacky. We believe he carries that ideology with him when performing. His stage presence is lively and entertaining, while also being fun and whimsical. It’s not just a DJ set to him; it’s a showcase of his internet persona in real life. This is all bolstered by the hilarious show visuals containing countless references to the DMZ meme page and all the iconic sayings and emojis that follow, such as Uncle Sam–themed visuals, the “Lizard” meme, and the terms “Holy Fuck” and “Locked In” plastered across the LED screen.

Even though the SweetTooth x DMZ tour has been promoted as “heavy” and “riddim”-centric, DMZ’s setlist is a love letter to 2010s dubstep. I lost track of the amount of music straight from the late and legendary Never Say Die Records. Tracks from the early 2010s, like “Z” by Eptic and MUST DIE!, threw the crowd back 13 years and completely subverted expectations. And, of course, a few Skrillex and Zomboy mentions for good measure.

If you’re looking for a dubstep blast from the past, then the DMZ News Official Locked In Tour is perfect for you. Underneath all the jokes, news, irony, and masks is a passion for good music and performances. After witnessing the Atlanta tour date in person, we believe that DMZ has a very deep understanding of what makes this corner of electronic music so great.
